A passenger train on its way to pick up refugees being evacuated from eastern Ukraine was set on fire by Russian forces, killing a conductor, says Ukraine’s national railway company.
The conductor was killed and another employee was taken to hospital with injuries when the train was attacked near Brusyn station in the Donetsk region, he says.
The train was ready to pick up residents who were being evacuated from Donetsk and Luhansk regions to Lyman station, including 100 children.
The company says it is “making every effort” to evacuate all passengers and train crew, as well as those evacuated to the station.
