Ukraine said this Sunday that Russian forces occupying the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant stole radioactive substances from research laboratories.
The Ukrainian State Agency for Area Management said Russian troops entered the warehouse of the Ecocentre research base and stole 133 radioactive substances.
“Even a small part of them is deadly if treated unprofessionally”the agency said, adding that their whereabouts are currently unknown.
Earlier this week, Ukraine’s Energy Minister German Gulashchenko said Russian soldiers were exposed to a quantity of nuclear radiation, adding that some of them could have less than a year to live.
“They dug the ground, collected radioactive sand in bags for fortification and absorbed this dust.” Gulashchenko said on Facebook on Friday after visiting the area.
