Adviser to President Volodymir Zelenksy, Oleksiy Arestovych has stated today that Kiev is proposing to hold a special round of peace negotiations with Russia, for the steel plant in Mariupol in Azovstal.
Oleksiy Arestovych suggested the talks could aim to establish a ceasefire and determine the fate of civilians and fighters trapped in the southern port city.
For weeks, a small group of Ukrainian defenders stationed at the Mariupol steel plant have prevented Russian forces from taking full control of the strategic port.
There are also reports that civilians including children have been sheltered there.
