The battle between UEFA and Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, continues.
The three famous clubs have not yet given up on the European Super League project. The conflict is not over yet, as the three “rebel” clubs risk exclusion from the Champions League!
The Madrid Court of Appeal gave the opportunity to UEFA to punish the clubs that promote the project of the European Super League on April 21. UEFA will be able to resume a provision for “a possible breach of the legal framework” of its rules.
The Appeal triumph will reopen the process that could lead to new penalties against the three clubs: ranging from 100m euros in fines to exclusion from European competitions for 1-2 years.
The exclusion from the Champions League of Spanish and Italian clubs could happen in the 2023/2024 season, when the competition will be increased by 4 teams, ie 36 in total, in a single group.
UEFA’s first step will be to keep the 5% of the profits that clubs receive from competing in European tournaments, a fine that will be paid by the 9 clubs that withdrew from the Super League project: City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham , Atletico Madrid, Milan and Inter.
Meanwhile, for Real, Barcelona and Juventus there will be an additional fine of 15 million euros. The decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union on the legality of the initiative to create the European Super League is expected on June 14.
