Footage showing the gruesome moment when two French fighter jets crash into the air during a national air show at a military base in southwestern France is making the rounds of the network.
Foreign media say that Rafale planes from the 30th squadron were involved in the accident.
The incident took place at base 709 Cognac-Châteaubernard in Charente. The two vehicles collided, but fortunately they managed to land on the ground, while from the whole episode only one of the vehicles came out with the upper part of the damaged tail.
The commander of the air base, Colonel Nicolas Lyautey, claimed that one of the planes had lost part of it, but no one was injured.
According to the colonel, such clashes are extremely rare. Witnesses at the scene claimed to have heard a loud bang, while also seeing the wreckage of the plane damaging a roof before ending up on the sidewalk.
France 3 quoted the local Air Force press office as saying that for the last time, a similar incident was recorded in April 2010.
