The Turkish interior minister says house construction has continued in 259 different locations in northern Syria.
Minister Seiman Soyluthat said yesterday that 500,000 refugees have returned to the country since 2016, as a result of Turkish military operations and the creation of safe zones and the reconstruction of infrastructure, writes the Turkish state agency Anadolu.
Since 2016, Ankara has conducted ongoing operations as it calls “anti-terror” in northern Syria to enable the “safe return and resettlement of residents.”
Introducing Turkish housing reconstruction projects in the Idlib region, Suleyman Soylu said work is ongoing in 259 different locations and 60,000 houses and housing units have been built so far.
According to the UN more than 350,000 people have lost their lives in the severe conflict of the last seven years, while other monitoring groups say the death toll could reach 500,000 or 600,000.
About 14 million people have fled their homes since the war, becoming refugees inside or outside the country, the EU has said.
