Turkey’s Defense Ministry has announced that at least ten Turkish soldiers, including a senior officer, have been killed and two others injured in a military helicopter crash in eastern Turkey.
“The number of our martyrs has increased to 11. We hope in Allah’s mercy for our martyrs and express our condolences to their precious families,” the Turkish ministry said.
Contact with the ‘Cougar’ military helicopter, which took off at 1:55 pm from the eastern province of Bingol in the Tatvan district, was cut off at 2:25 pm. “Efforts are being made to transfer our injured staff to the hospital,” the Turkish ministry said.
The leader of the Nationalist Movement Party of Turkey (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, announced on social media that the commander of the 8th Corps, Lieutenant General Osman Erbaş, is among the victims. Bahçeli expressed his condolences to the families, the Turkish nation and the Turkish Armed Forces for the deadly crash of the military helicopter.
