Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said today that his country supports Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe and will not allow the Balkan region to return to the dark years of the 1990s.
He made these comments during a meeting today with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, on which occasion he stressed Turkey’s support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo, as well as for membership in international organizations. While praising the excellent bilateral relations, the increase of economic cooperation and investments, the Turkish Minister stressed that Kosovo is a NATO partner country and that Turkey considers peace and stability extremely important.
Whereas, Prime Minister Kurti said that Turkey is a great partner, friend and ally of Kosovo, while expressing gratitude for the continuous support given to our country.
Emphasizing institutional stability and positive economic indicators, Kurti reiterated the commitment of the Government of Kosovo to encourage investment through sustainable economic and social development, and the fight against crime and corruption.
He singled out Kosovo’s goal of membership in the NATO Partnership for Peace, while emphasizing the opportunities for increased cooperation in defense and security. The meeting discussed many areas of cooperation in economy, energy, security and defense.
The numerous ties between the two countries were praised, especially those between the citizens, which are a bridge for strong bilateral relations. During his visit to Kosovo, the Turkish Minister met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla.
