The British Foreign Secretary, Lizz Truss, one of the two candidates to take the position of Prime Minister, after the resignation of Boris Johnson, has said that she does not support the sending of British soldiers to Ukraine, to help in the fight against Russia.
Speaking in an interview with the British broadcaster BBC on July 21, Truss rejected the “direct involvement” of her country’s troops if she becomes prime minister.
“We are doing everything we can to support Ukraine. We have been at the head of the international coalition for the delivery of weapons, we are implementing the sanctions, but I do not support the direct involvement of British troops”, she said.
Her comments are in line with the positions of the United States, NATO and most other Western countries, which have supported Kiev in the war by sending weapons and other aid, but have ruled out sending troops to Ukrainian land.
Moscow has said that any involvement of Western forces in Ukraine will be considered a declaration of war against Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
He calls the war a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine.
The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.
