A march entitled “Save the Democracy” was held yesterday in New York in memory of the riots of January 6 last year.
Supporters of former President Donald Trump stood in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a day after President Joe Biden blamed Trump for “attempting to overthrow the election.”
Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell from another event, referred to January 6 as a “dark day.”
But he added that he was stunned that some Washington Democrats were trying to use the day for political advantage.
McConnell was among the Republicans who at the time condemned Trump for inciting violence with allegations of election theft and manipulation.
But since then the entire party has withdrawn from criticism for January 6, seeing widespread voter support for Trump and his possible re-election in 2024.
In a reaction to Biden’s allegations in Congress, Trump said today, among other things:
“Biden, who is destroying our nation with insane border opening policies, corrupt elections and catastrophic energy policies, used my name yesterday to divide America a lot. “In this political theater, everything is a draw to the fact that he has failed.”
“They managed to escape with what they did and canceled the elections. “They and their media call the allegations ‘a big lie’ when in fact the ‘big lie’ was the election itself.”
In another statement, Trump added:
“Biden is working hard to divert attention from the incompetent work he is doing, such as the terrible withdrawal from Afghanistan, the borders, Covid, inflation and the loss of the country’s energy independence. “Everything he touches is a failure,… but so it is when it comes to false choices.”
