Angry crowds have burned train carriages after clashes with police in protest of jobs in eastern India.
Bihar province has been in the midst of tensions since last week following allegations that competitions for railway jobs were being manipulated by local officials.
The small-scale protests started on Monday but they have spread widely and crowds have stoned trains, blocked stations and burned Prime Minister Modi’s puppets.
Dozens of people have been arrested for participating in demonstrations in Bihar and the neighboring Uttar Pradesh region.
Police have been criticized for the harsh hand to protesters as it is reported for raiding of suspected houses.
“Young people have the right to talk about unemployment,” said opposition MP Prianka Gandhi in a comment condemning the attacks.
Unemployment is an old scourge of India’s economy as the figures are currently the highest since the 1970s.
