Gunmen carrying out a sophisticated attack on a train in Nigeria last month have released footage of dozens of hostages being held today.
Among the hostages is the head of the Agricultural Bank of Nigeria, who was later released by the hostages.
The images were the first indicator of the number of passengers caught in the violent attack, in which eight people lost their lives.
In the two-minute video, dozens of people are seen sitting in a forest area, including men and women.
Behind them stands a line of armed men.
“We are the passengers of the train that departed from Abuja to Kaduna on Monday, March 28, 2022,” says a local Hausa man.
“Since then we are in a very bad situation, there are women and children, people with health problems,” added the man.
The AFP network said it could not independently verify the footage, but it also shows the head of Nigeria’s agricultural bank.
After appearing in the video, the banker was released by the hostage-takers, who said they did it as a gesture of goodwill for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
