“Traffic city” is the first educational and entertaining corner for children, dedicated to road safety, where through play children are educated on the rules and signs of traffic. The corner includes activities such as: crossing the white lines, cycling, respecting traffic lights and signs, etc.
The revitalization of this special space starts in Tirana and will continue its journey in other cities of the country, from north to south.
Prime Minister Edi Rama visited today this space, which has clearly aroused the interest of children with fun elements intertwined with educational ones, such as colorful plastic labyrinths, anti-slip areas, bike paths or parking spaces.
The Road Safety Corner for children was co-financed by the Polish Assistance program in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in Tirana and with the support of the Twinning Project. This project includes the development of an area under the management of the Albanian Road Authority, at the Central Regional Directorate, in Tirana.
“This is an important area because we have started several projects here, meanwhile we have started with the Polish aid program and with all the help that the ambassador has given us to move as fast as possible, to make this educational project for children that has to do with with road safety. Road safety for years is one of the priorities that the Albanian Road Authority has. Some of the projects that the World Bank has, are related to road safety, starting from the elimination of some black spots, or horizontal and vertical signage. What we have identified all this time is that the most important thing to do is to start educating the younger generation and creating a sensitivity of all children in terms of road safety, so how do we behave in traffic, what are the rules that should be followed and obviously this is something we are looking for in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, to put in the curricula. ” – explained the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku.
The traffic city area will be made available to schools, kindergartens and other non-governmental institutions dealing with traffic education for children and young people.
The space can also be used during physical education and road safety class. Moreover, elements such as classrooms, mazes and games will give children the opportunity to practice dexterity, coordination, all-round development and competition.
“This road safety corner will also provide a place for important activities for families, not only schools, during the weekend. It will be open, we will have our operators of the Albanian Road Authority to help children cross all the small roads created here, and during the week it will be attended by schools. ” – said Minister Balluku.
While appreciating the work done in this first project, Prime Minister Rama stressed the need to extend such projects to other cities in the country. “Every city to have this will be very beautiful, for children it would be very beautiful and it has a super educational effect” – said the Prime Minister.
