Former diplomat Agim Nesho in a skype connection on the show “Top Talk” on Top Channel said that Albania needs a president to avoid the transformation of the ambassador into a governor.
According to him, leaders who have power must be emancipated and find certain solutions to move the rule of law.
Nesho stressed that Albanian democracy has not reached its maturity, while the country itself has the myth of a diplomat.
“For the activity of President Meta has been an institution that despite the rhetoric has been solid in the messages and decrees he has made, one of the most effective, but regarding the question of whether the president should be the guarantor for the functioning of the state, the president should resize the role of ambassadors. Our constitution enables the party that has the majority in parliament to elect the president, this applies for the reason whether the leaders who have power are emancipated or seek to maintain power continuously or find certain solutions to move the rule of law in Albania. I think this is missing, because if you look at the institution of the president when there were leaders of the majority who wanted to seize power, they redefined even those competencies that were necessary for this balance and function of power, this it is due to the emancipation of politicians who see power not in the function of serving the citizens but in the continuation of their stay in power. But the case of diplomats who go beyond the competencies recognized in the protocol have a point where it can be prohibited, it can make these relations not personalized and this is the role of a president. It may be over the parties, but it is very unlikely that in a politicized environment such as Albania it is difficult to have a discussion. Albanian democracy has not achieved its democracy. We are the ones who create the myth of the diplomat to act “said Nesho.
