In solidarity with Ukraine, the Albanians joined the international initiative to demand an end to Russian aggression. For an hour in Tirana they forgot the problems in the country and stood by the Ukrainians to give them support in this difficult moment.
From Skanderbeg Square, thousands of participants, families, young people, high school students, or children marched towards the Ukrainian embassy with Albanian and Ukrainian flags in their hands as well as anti-war awareness banners.
At 12:00, the traffic was restricted on some road segments. Boulevard Dëshmorët e Kombit conveyed the desire for peace as rarely.
The event was organized by the Municipality of Tirana, where the mayor Erion Veliaj next to the ambassador of Ukraine during his speech on the street that today is called “Free Ukraine” had a call for the Russian embassy.
Artists and politicians were also present at the rally, as was the United States Ambassador Yuri Kim.
As a sign of gratitude, the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klichko had found the time between the bombs and the horror of the war to greet the Albanians.
