Tens of thousands of people gathered today in central Stockholm to protest the vaccination document following the recent tightening of restrictions by the government.
Despite the large number of participants the rallies took place calmly even though the police had warned of possible clashes.
Local security police had just expressed concern that “neo-Nazi groups” and their opponents could clash in Stockholm.
At least 10,000 people marched in the streets of the capital chanting “No Vaccine-Pass, we want freedom”, in a protest organized by a group called the “Freedom Movement”.
Julia Johansson, a 30-year-old participant, said the vaccination passport “discriminates against many people”.
“We have to decide for ourselves what we want to do with our body,” she told AFP.
35-year-old Aida Begovic spoke in the same line, saying that “they are forcing people to perform medical procedures that they do not want”.
“Even though they say that vaccination is not mandatory, with it you can lose your rights in society,” Begovic said.
Sweden launched the vaccination passport on December 1 but made it mandatory on January 12.
