Yesterday, a serious incident occurred in Lofkënd Te Mallakastra where two people were trapped inside a well and unfortunately one of them lost his life.
This situation was also discussed in the “Albania Live” studio, together with the firefighter who was trapped and the people who were at the scene.
The well was 18 meters deep and the main cause of their asphyxiation was the petrol pump they had with them.
They said that at the moment the two boys entered the well, there was no one near them and then they called the fire department asking for help.
Journalist Laureta Roshi said that they were friends and that the well was opened a few years ago, while they recently went in to clean it.
She also said that the ambulance was delayed in arriving at the scene, but the fire brigade rejected all these claims.
Some details from the moment of their rescue were told by the fire chief of Mallakastër, Reonardo Zotaj, who said that there were seven firefighters who tried to save them.
When the firefighters went down, the two people were found with signs of life.
“Seven members of the team who have saved them risking their lives. Partially drowned were found. I don’t think it was an explosion. The petrol pumps that they would use in the well, for this reason, have been asphyxiated. If there was an electric pump, they would have been saved.” said Zotaj.
But in this serious event, the firefighter, Albenc Zotaj, who was the first to face the difficult situation, was also injured.
He said that after going down he saved the first Bledar Bregu and then returned to pull the deceased Besnik Veliaj out of the well.
“We went down with the camera together with ropes. I saw that the two people were in the well with signs of life, I communicated with them”, said the fireman.
At the same time they indicated that it was impossible to get both of them out at the same time because the well could break and the water level would constantly rise.
