Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ermira Gjeci spoke about the situation of bird flu in our country.
Ermira Gjeci: We have not had any new positive cases of bird flu. We also had no denunciations. Throughout the territory, the process of elimination and burial of dead birds continues, applying the rules of animal welfare.
The monitoring of the situation with controls on farms continues. From the controls for monitoring, the situation appears healthy. The National Food Authority is conducting inspections throughout the country and no violations have been found.
Cooperation with local co-government units to stop the trade of livestock in unapproved facilities is ongoing. Currently we do not have any new cases, measures have been taken to move the birds from farm to farm. We are conducting continuous monitoring in order to take restrictive measures in place.
We are under constant monitoring throughout the territory. The foods in our market are safe for the consumer, there is no risk from consuming meat and eggs.
Question: When will we have complete cleansing from the infection?
Ermira Gjeci: We are in the process in the complex in Xhafzotaj which is a long process, there are still live animals that are destined for their elimination and the procedure requires them to be gradually eliminated and buried, otherwise they cause problems.
The whole burial process takes time, from 5-6 days. Regarding other hearths, they are cleaned, have a small number of deaths but must follow the disinfection protocol.
Question: When will the compensation process begin?
Ermira Gjeci: The epidemiological investigation will see the whole progress and then will come to a conclusion, but immediate is the extinction of the foci. We want to stop the spread of the disease to other farms. We are focused on minimizing the spread on Albanian farms. We are under constant monitoring, to have results and to understand the situation. It is a process that will last, it is not that it was closed.
