About 70 bodies have been found under the rubble of a former industrial building in the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol, according to aide to Mariupol Mayor Petro Andryushchenko.
The bodies were found by Russian emergency workers and sent to a mass grave. Andryushchenko said they were people who had been trapped in the collapsed building after it was hit by shelling.
“No identification was made, but locals say there was basically nothing to identify given the condition of the troops,” Andryushchenko said.
Andryushchenko, the mayor and other local officials are no longer in the city and are posting updates from a location in Ukrainian-controlled territory.
On Tuesday Andryushchenko reported that about 200 heavily decomposed bodies had been exhumed from under the rubble of a residential building in the city.
