100 lanterns lit up the Kennedy Center in Washington on Thursday evening, to wish them as much light as possible to enter the Chinese Year of the Tiger.
Its visitors will have until February 6 to see the wonders of flowers and other colorful creatures masterfully crafted by Chinese artisans, and decorated with about 10 thousand LED lights. It’s the year of the Tiger, the year when life returns to roar loudly, said Kennedy Center director Deborah Rutter.
“I am happy to be here to celebrate the new lunar year. Although we still can not celebrate as we want indoors, we really wanted to continue this new tradition of collecting these wonderful lanterns in this place to celebrate with great vivacity this Chinese New Year. “These beautiful objects are made of silk and lit by LED light, all made in China.”
Art and culture, Rutter said, are a way to get to know yourself, and get to know others better.
It’s a way of bringing people closer to each other. We had the opportunity to do it in a magnificent way, I would even say spectacular. The Year of the Tiger brings life back to life, and for us, this garden was a way for us all to come out of the darkness of winter together and walk towards the light, remembering how necessary it is to work together.
