Russia has previously demanded that Ukraine change its constitution to maintain neutrality so that it can no longer join NATO or the EU, recognize Crimea as Russian territory, and recognize Donetsk and Luhansk as independent territories.
US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman also said that Russia was showing signs of willingness to get seriously involved in negotiations aimed at ending the conflict that has left thousands dead and forced 2.5 million people to flee. Leonid Slutsky, a senior member of Russia’s negotiating team, told state-run RT television that “we are seeing significant progress in the negotiations. “According to my personal expectations, this progress can be transformed in the coming days into a joint position of the two delegations and the signing of documents.”
