The US Embassy in Tirana reacted after the approval of the new judicial map in Tirana, welcoming this step.
The response states that the Supreme Judicial Council has successfully fulfilled its legal obligation to guarantee a court system that will provide justice to Albanian citizens.
“We welcome the approval by the Council of Ministers of the new judicial map today. The map of Albania’s courts was drawn up by the Supreme Judicial Council through a process that involved the Ministry of Justice and other actors, as well as technical assistance from the United States government, the European Union and the Council of Europe. The agreement on the map, which followed extensive consultation and consideration of concerns from stakeholders as part of the three-year process, represents a good example of cooperation between independent institutions. The High Judicial Council has successfully fulfilled its legal obligation to regularly guarantee that the court system is ready to ensure effective judicial performance and to deliver justice without delay to Albanian citizens”the statement said.
“Less courts, more” quality was the slogan of the Supreme Court of Justice for the new judicial map, which caused quite a bit of controversy, starting from the question of how can the highest quality be guaranteed if the regrouping changes from 22 to 12 courts?! The initiative was also accompanied by protests and boycotts by lawyers, who came out with the claim that the merger of the courts will directly affect the citizens, who will not have access to the justice system, their costs will increase, but the flow to a court will also be greater.
