A security guard has reportedly been fired from his job in Russia after destroying a precious modern art painting on his first day of work.
The damage is believed to have occurred on December 7, 2021, when the young guard, upset by the monotony of the work shift, is accused of drawing the eyes with a pen, on the three faceless figures in the painting.
The employee in his 60s who came from a private security company has already been fired after the revelation of his action this week.
The Yeltsin Center said in a statement yesterday: “We inform you that during the investigation it was discovered that the person who drew the eye in Anna Leporskaya’s painting has been identified. The person comes from a private security organization operating in the Yeltsin center.
“The damage was caused by a pen.”
The painting was painted by artist Anna Leporskaya, a former student of renowned Russian ‘avant-garde’ artist Kazimir Malevich.
The painting is called ‘Three Figures’ (1932-1934) and comes from the Tretyakov Gallery.
Experts reportedly have begun work on repairing the painting, for which the security company is paying.
Experts at the state-run Tretyakov Gallery said they believed the damage could be repaired without long-term consequences for the work.
Anna Leporskaya (1900-1982) was a painting student of the famous Russian artist Kazimir Malevich (1879-1935) and has worked with other current artists such as Nikolai Suetin and Lev Yudin.
