The UN has indicated that the General Assembly may suspend the membership rights of a member of the Human Rights Council who engages in systematic human rights violations.
The Council is deeply concerned about reports of serious and systematic violations of human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law committed by the Russian Federation during its aggression against Ukraine, the draft resolution adds.
The General Assembly will have to vote in favor with a two-thirds majority to remove Russia from the HRC.
If the vote passes, it will decide to suspend the membership rights to the Human Rights Council of the Russian Federation.
A number of countries are expected to speak to the UN before the vote, including representatives from Russia and Ukraine.
