The UN Human Rights Council has overwhelmingly backed a resolution condemning the Russian occupation of Ukraine and setting up a commission of inquiry to investigate it for war crimes.
Only one state, Eritrea, in East Africa, voted against the resolution, while 32 voted in favor and 13 abstained.
Ahead of the vote, the Ukrainian ambassador said:“It is our common duty to ensure accountability by mandating the documentation and verification of Russia’s crimes and the identification of those responsible.”
Russia has denied targeting people in Ukraine, despite widespread footage of dilapidated apartment buildings and the deaths of 2,000 civilians.
