The Ukrainian military said on Monday that shelling of its defenses across Donetsk was continuing, but new attempts by Russian forces to gain territory had failed.
The General Staff said that in the north of the city of Sloviansk, more than ten settlements were under fire. Most civilians left the area weeks ago.
The Russians continued to bomb areas along the border of Luhansk and Donetsk regions and were continuing a ground assault east of the town of Lysychansk, which they captured last month.
Ukrainian forces still defending this stretch of territory in the eastern Donetsk region are being attacked from two sides as the Russians try to close in on the city of Siversk.
But the General Staff stated that the Ukrainians successfully repelled the attacks in the areas of the Verkhniokamianske, Spirne and Serebrianka settlements, all near Siversk.
The Ukrainian military has indicated that Russian attempts to attack from the south, near Bakhmut, were also repulsed.
In the south, the military said the Russians had tried to launch an airstrike north of Kherson, parts of which were liberated in recent weeks.
“After attacking our positions, [armiku] retreated immediately under fire”said the Operational Command in the South.
He claimed that Ukrainian jets had hit Russian weapons and ammunition near Davydiv Brid, on the border of Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.
In the south overnight, heavy shelling was reported in the city of Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region, where about ten houses and a power plant were hit.
