Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the phone, discussing the situation in Ukraine and negotiations between Moscow and Kiev, Erdogan’s office said late Friday.
Erdogan told his counterpart that he had raised Turkey’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity at a recent NATO summit.
Ankara, which has close ties to Russia and Ukraine, has positioned itself as a neutral party, seeking to facilitate negotiations between the warring parties.
On March 6, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to declare a ceasefire in Ukraine, open humanitarian corridors and sign a peace agreement, the Turkish president’s office announced.
Ukraine and Russia have so far held a series of rounds of negotiations, but have not yet reached any concrete results in ending the war.
