An obese monkey who had reached the sick weight of 15 kg and was seen eating garbage on the city streets, received support from all over the world, even though his fate is already shrouded in mystery.
Few animals had received as much attention as she did for the old fat macaque monkey, as photos with his big belly appeared in newspapers and social networks around the world.
His insatiable hunger had turned him into an epitome of ridicule for millions of people as he was known for his appetite for watermelons, milk cartons, pasta or any item given to him by visitors to the famous market in Bangkok, Thailand.
After being taken for a medical check-up by local officials he was sent to a special fat monkey care camp at the Nakhon Nayok Reserve in May 2017.
Employees said they hoped to reduce his weight to the average of the species which is about 8kg before launching him back on the road to his herd friends.
His rehabilitation period reportedly went well with the loss of at least two kilograms, as one of the veterinarians commented at the time: “His abdomen no longer crawls on the ground. “He looks in good health, he is ready to let go, he is even used to natural foods.”
But in fact what happened next to the ovez monkey remains a mystery and specialists assume he died after noticing he had been missing from his herd for several months.
The experts could not decide whether he had died of old age or of the activity he liked so much, that is, to swallow everything he found on the city streets.
