A nine-year-old boy recounts seeing the ‘horror of his life’ when he found a raging mountain lion in the school toilet.
9-year-old David Miguel, said he almost fainted when he found the wild puma cat as he went to the toilet during sports class.
The unusual incident happened at the Martha Drummond school in Nova Lima, Brazil.
The boy had then come out of the toilets and had notified his father who had returned to record the scene.
The boy’s father Rodrigo Almeida, 34, said: “I thought it would be a little wild cat, a coyote or something like that, but when I saw the size of that animal and I ran away.”
Wildlife authorities were then called in and the puma was shot with a calming arrow. She was transported by officials and returned to the wild.
Wildlife source officials said the animal was a puma female and emerged unharmed from the incident.
Veterinarian Marcos Mourao, who helped release the animal, said the loss of habitat has caused wildlife to move closer and closer to urban areas.
He said: “We know that incidents occur due to growing problems in the habitat of these animals, so they end up entering more and more villages and towns.”
In case of encountering animals the authorities suggested the residents not to make too much noise and to leave the area slowly, to contact the relevant services immediately.
