The UN Human Rights Council is holding an urgent session in Geneva today, examining evidence of Moscow’s alleged violations in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova said Russia was committing “the most horrific human rights violations on the European continent in decades.”
Speaking from Kiev, she said: These have been 10 weeks of horror for the people of my country.
“Torture and enforced disappearances, sexual and gender-based violence; Russia’s list of crimes is endless. “Only the world, standing firm in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, can defeat this clear evil.”
Dzhaparova then posted a photo with black stripes, drawn by an 11-year-old boy, who said he was raped in front of his mother.
He now communicates only through drawings, she said.
The UN Human Rights Council will vote on a draft resolution calling for an investigation into alleged abuses by Russian forces in and around the Kiev region.
Earlier, the UN chief on human rights said a thousand bodies had been found in part of the Ukrainian capital in recent weeks.
