Sali Berisha demanded that President Ilir Meta not sign the dismissal of Bajram Begaj, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, after the latter was declared a candidate for President. But Meta, without any delay, signed the decree from Istanbul
Has this event affected the relationship that Berisha has with the current President? Asked by journalists, Berisha said that “there is no flaw”.
“He (Meta) had to exercise his constitutional obligation. “Meta could not but exercise his constitutional obligation to release the Chief of General Staff, a unique rat, which has not happened in other countries.”.
Berisha further added that it is unprecedented for a person who has a high military position like Bajram Begaj to become President.
Bajram Begaj was elected as the ninth president of the Republic of Albania with 78 votes in favor, 4 against and 1 abstention. Former Chief of General Staff Bajram Begaj, whose name came out of the SP, will be the successor of Ilir Meta and will remain at the helm of the state for the next five years.
