Today, on January 5, the assembly members of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina will convene to elect the chairman.
The meeting where the chairman of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina is expected to be elected will start at 10:00.
And when there are a few hours left until this meeting, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) led by the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, as the winning party has not managed to form a coalition with other parties. Although, there were rumors of a coalition with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), but so far there is nothing official.
The LDK will need coalitions as it has managed to secure 14 seats in the municipal assembly elections, which is insufficient to elect a leader.
In which case, to elect the leader, the LDK needs at least 12 votes from other political entities.
If the same is not elected today, the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina goes to new extraordinary elections for assembly.
We recall that on December 7, Përparim Rama took over the post of mayor of Prishtina, from the former mayor of Shpend Ahmeti.
In the solemn ceremony, Rama swore that he would perform all duties as the leader of the capital honestly and impartially.
We bring to mind that Rama was the second most voted candidate in the first round of local elections held on October 17. He had managed to get 25 thousand 252 votes or 27.17 percent. While the first was the opponent from Vetëvendosje, Arben Vitia with 36 thousand 818 or 42.54 percent of the vote.
But that result was reversed in the second round of elections held on 14 November.
Rama came out first, winning 41 thousand 746 votes, or 50.98 percent of the vote, while Vitia won 40 thousand 143 votes or 49.02 percent.
