The Russian Defense Ministry said its troops had been ordered to resume the attack in all directions after a suspension was ordered for the start of negotiations with the Ukrainian government.
“On Friday, after the Kiev regime declared its readiness for negotiations, the attacks on the main directions of the operation were suspended.”said the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov in a statement on Saturday.
“After the Ukrainian side abandoned the negotiation process, today all units were ordered to continue their offensive in all directions in accordance with the operation plan.”
A Ukrainian presidential adviser denied in the early hours of Saturday that Ukraine had refused to negotiate.
Konashenkov’s remarks, which were echoed by the Kremlin as well, were made after Western officials said the Russian occupation was not advancing as fast as Moscow would expect.
The fighting reached the streets of the Ukrainian capital on Saturday after the country’s army tried to stop the advance of Russian forces in various places. The attacks have met with strong resistance from the Ukrainian military, which has managed to repel Russian forces on several occasions.
Kiev is being attacked from all sides while there are still no figures for the number of Russian soldiers killed. So far it is reported that 198 Ukrainians, including three children, have been killed since the start of the war.
