The Temporary Re-establishment Commission on Monday reacted to the expulsion of four deputies from the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, who have lined up next to former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, demanding the removal of President Lulzim Basha from the leadership of the party.
In a letter sent to the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Mrs. Lindita Nikolla, the Re-establishment Committee of the Democratic Party asks her not to consider illegal requests that threaten the rights of representation and parliamentary activity of the elected deputies of the Party Democratic and stay out of the internal conflict of a political party.
According to the letter of this Committee, it is emphasized that the regulation of the Assembly of Albania stipulates in its article 15 that the parliamentary groups are formed by the deputies according to the party affiliation or according to the political orientation. This provision, according to the Commission, clearly stipulates that parliamentary groups are formed on the basis of the final result of the elections declared by the CEC.
Thus, the letter states that a deputy may decide to voluntarily resign from a group formed according to party affiliation, but that there is no provision in the regulations that authorizes a parliamentary group to exclude, suspend or restrict or infringe the rights of representation and parliamentary activity of a deputy of the respective group, within that group or beyond in parliament.
Democratic Party MP, Edmond Spaho, immediately after the start of the first plenary session for 2022, reacted loudly by accusing the chairman of this political force, Lulzim Basha, regarding the latter’s decision to expel him from the Parliamentary Group. .
According to him, Basha has done everything just to keep his chair.
“Democrats have no future with this, with a man who has lost four pairs of elections and is sold as the future of Democrats. The day will come, do not remember that he has it far away. Citizens will give what this man deserves”.
Meanwhile, the Democratic MP Tritan Shehu, who is also one of the expelled from Lulzim Basha, has come out against the decision of the PD Parliamentary Group, asking the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, to review the documents, as those are sent are “zero”.
“Do not turn to the supporters of the unconstitutional, illegal changes, which the parliamentary groups call part of. I advise you to verify, summon, look at the documents and then present to the Assembly things that are distortions of reality and intentional”.
MPs Oerd Bylykbashi and Flamur Noka also opposed the decision to expel or suspend them from the PD Parliamentary Group. According to Bylykbashi, the deputy leaves the group of his own free will.
“The Regulation and the Constitution do not provide for any restrictions in this regard. This can not be done, otherwise a dangerous precedent is set“, He said.
Lulzim Basha, at the meeting of the Presidency of the political force on the evening of January 10, decided to expel from the Democratic Party its former chairman and co-founder, Sali Berisha, along with seven members of the Re-establishment Commission.
The other seven members expelled are Bujar Nishani, Flamur Noka, Albana Vokshi, Edmond Spaho, Arben Ristani, Klevis Balliu and Keltis Kruja.
A number of names have also been temporarily suspended by Democratic bodies.
Among the latter are important names, such as: Agron Shehaj, Aldo Bumçi, Belind Këlliçi, Edith Harxhi, Edi Paloka, Tritan Shehu and Oerd Bylykbashi.
