The Prosecution has requested 25 years in prison for Izet Haxhina in connection with the charge of murdering Azem Hajdari.
The prosecution body clarified that since the defendant is accused and asked to be punished for committing three criminal offenses, in this case there is room for the application of Article 55 of the Criminal Code, for the combination of sentences.
Thus, based on Article 55, it is required that the defendant be sentenced to a single joint sentence of 25 years in prison, derived from the most severe sentence passed.
It is learned that in order to prepare the conclusions for the defendant, the lawyers asked for time, a request which was accepted by the court and in these conditions the court session was postponed to January 21, at 14:00.
Izet Haxhia was arrested in Turkey in 2006. In May this year he was extradited to Albania, where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison as an accomplice in the murder of Azem Hajdari on September 12, 1998. Despite requesting a retrial, the prosecution requested again the same sentence.
Izet Haxhia was Sali Berisha’s first bodyguard and in the years when the Democratic Party ruled, the conflict between him and Azem Hajdari, the leader of the Student Movement and a member of the Democratic Party, was well known.
