The procedures for the election of the new president of the Republic would officially start today. The Conference of Presidents will start at 12:30 where the first round of voting for the new president will be discussed and determined.
The working group set up by the Socialist Party has gathered the proposals of the deputies for the president, while through an official e-mail the citizens are also expressing their candidacies. The majority has consulted with the leaders of groups other than the Democratic Party, due to the internal crisis in the party.
Until the third round the parties can vote on a consensual name. If this name is not voted on until the third round, then the majority can choose it alone with 71 votes in the 4th and 5th round.
Prime Minister Rama has ruled out the possibility of the new president being from the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, while so far none of the parliamentary groups has publicly supported a certain candidate.
