German President Frank Walter Steinmeier has organized a ‘solidarity concert’ for Ukraine today, attended by musicians from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
Parts of Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian composers were played at the Bellevue Presidential Palace. The whole concert organized by him, the German president watched with live video, as he was positive with Covid and could not be present in the hall.
“Let us be vigilant against all-out hostilities and not succumb to Putin’s pseudo-historical nationalist illusion. “Let us not allow Putin’s hatred to become hatred among people… even in our society,” said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
However, Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, wrote on Twitter that he had declined the invitation, saying that only Russian soloists were performing and that there were no Ukrainians. He said that for him this was an insult and that he would stay away from it,
“ONLY RUSSIAN SOLOISTS, NOT UKRAINIANS. An insult. “Excuse me, I’m staying away.” – Melnyk wrote on Andriy Twitter
