The Vatican Cardinal will travel to Ukraine again, at the request of Pope Francis.
Cardinal Michael Czerny will visit the Ukrainian border with Slovakia to “show the Holy Father’s support for those suffering the consequences of the war,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said Monday.
“Pope Francis is following this mission with prayer, and through His Excellency, he wants to be close to those who are fleeing the fighting and suffering from the violence of other people,” he added.
At Sunday Mass, Pope Francis strongly condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine.
“In the name of God, let the cry of the afflicted be heard and let the bombing and attacks stop.” he said during Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
“In the name of God, I ask you to stop this massacre.”
The bombings of children’s hospitals and civilians are “barbaric” and have “no valid strategic reason,” the pope added.
