Pope Francis has called for an international “day of prayer for peace” on January 26 to end the crisis in Ukraine. He also called for political talks to focus on “human brotherhood instead of partisan interests”.
“I am following with concern the escalating tensions that threaten to strike a new blow to peace in Ukraine and call into question security in Europe, which could have far-reaching consequences,” the pope said on January 23.
The Vatican did not provide any details on how the Pope will mark International Day of Prayer for Peace for Ukraine.

Moscow, which has denied plans to invade Ukraine, has demanded assurances from NATO that it would suspend the membership of former Soviet states, such as Ukraine, in the military alliance.
