Unit 101 of the U.S. Armed Forces at Fort Campbell base has been ordered to prepare for a possible deployment, according to a Pentagon announcement.
Other U.S. military units in the country and in Europe are also on high alert to deploy in support of NATO and the safety of U.S. citizens abroad, according to a statement from U.S. military leaders.
“As we have done for the last 77 years, the 101st Air Division is ready to be deployed anywhere in order to support our nation and our allies,” said the unit’s commander, Major General JP McGee.
A military force trained in emergencies, the 101st Airborne Assault Division has units ready to deploy worldwide and carry out a range of operations ranging from humanitarian aid to combat capabilities, the statement said.
Tensions have risen sharply in recent weeks as the United States and its NATO allies fear that Moksa is planning to invade the neighboring country, once part of the Soviet bloc. Russia denies having such plans.
