A fire has engulfed the main temple of the wooden monastery in eastern Ukraine today, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“As a result of hostilities, a large-scale fire has engulfed the territory of the Sviatohirsk Lavra, where the main temple was burned.” said in the statement of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Fortunately no casualties have been reported so far.
This temple dates back to 1526, but was rebuilt in 2005, using the traditions of Russian wooden architecture of the 16th-17th centuries.
