The number of livestock in our country has decreased in recent years and this has led to a decline in the entire livestock sector and meat or dairy products.
According to INSTAT data, in 2021 the number of cattle suffered 26 thousand less cows than in 2020.
The number of sheep also decreased by 58 thousand less than in 2020, while the number of chickens also fell by 3.2 percent.
There was an improvement in bee breeding, which increased by 10% in 2021, compared to 2020.
From the decrease in the number of cattle and cows, milk decreased by 3.7%, meat by 1.5%, while honey increased by 5.1%.
According to INSTAT, in 2021 84.83% of milk was produced by cows, 8% by goats and 7.2% by sheep. Milk production from sheep for 2021 is 73,466 tons, while from goats is 80,173 tons.
The production of live weight meat is 148 thousand tons, while the production of honey for 2021 is 4,835 tons.
