In recent days there have been rumors about another duel between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, it was even reported that the deal was “very close”, but Dana White, president of the UFC, clears everything up. Interviewed by TMZ Sports, regarding a report from the UK that the two fighters will have a rematch, the 53-year-old stated:
“It’s complete nonsense! That story came from a newspaper called the Daily Mirror, a tabloid in Europe. It is total absurdity”.
The UFC president says the fight will not have a rematch.
“Conor McGregor is under contract with the UFC, so if he wants to put on the boxing gloves to face ‘Money’, the head of the UFC needs to be on board.”
For White, who gets along well with Mayweather, there’s no chance of that happening, at least not in the near future.
How did the first duel end?
In August 2017, the Irishman and the American boxed at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in what was one of the most talked about fights in combat sports history.
The bout was won by a 10th-round TKO by Mayweather, who up to that point had a record of 49 wins and 0 losses in the ring.
It should be noted that it was McGregor’s first time fighting as a professional boxer. After that victory, “Money” said goodbye to professional boxing, although there were exhibition bouts, like the one against Logan Paul.
Meanwhile, “The Notorious” continues to recover from the injury suffered last summer in the fight with Dustin Poirier, where he broke his leg.
