The mayor of Mariupol said the besieged city would never surrender, as he urged Western allies to offer more weapons to help Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces.
“Mariupol will never rise to surrender for the sake of peace. We can only return what is ours and Mariupol has been and will remain Ukrainian and we will do everything to ensure this“, Said Vadym Boychenko, speaking to Sky News.
The mayor called on the whole world to unite and provide weapons to enable Ukraine to achieve victory, stressing that everyone will return to their cities if that happens.
“The sooner they reach the Ukrainian armed forces, the sooner we will be able to return home. I will go home to Mariupol and the others will return to other cities. We need to make those decisions faster one way or another. “We must understand that there is no other solution, there is no other way. We, the Ukrainians, must be given the opportunity to liberate our land.”he further added.
