The last meeting of the Municipal Council for 2021; Veliaj shows the 30 achievements of the year we are leaving behind and the projects in 2022

Below is a part of the speech of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj at the meeting of the Municipal Council:

1. We have completed 14 schools in record time. In 101 years of Tirana as the capital, 14 schools have never been opened in one season, we have done it this year. Certainly thanks to the flexibility that this Council had, then all our brigades, directorates, all operators that were mobilized. And we have opened the 14 best schools in Tirana. We have a lot of 17 schools in the Municipality of Tirana that will be opened in 2022.

2. This council has voted for the transformation of the most important property in Tirana, in the environment that will define and define what Tirana and Albania will be for 2030, 2040, 2050, is the revitalization of the Pyramid of Tirana. We have invested a large part of the budget, and if we say that Youth is the future, then it is also the present. Next year at TUMO we expect to have 5 thousand students, and to have boys and girls who create innovation and get paid without moving from place to place or from home.
3. I just inspected the Zoo project. We have also received some of the new animals, some of the new equipment. It will be an addition, that in a community, along with the lake with running tracks and some of the interventions we have made, even with the planting of trees, and today is an added space for Tirana.

4. This council voted for the first time to break the monopoly of food that comes to the table of every citizen of Tirana. Work has now begun next to TEG, where the wholesale market will be, without any private monopoly, ie the Agriculture aggregator. And it will also lower the cost for the families who buy. So will those who work in agriculture and livestock =, but also those who buy.
5. UT Campus Construction. 8 buildings have been completed at the Agricultural University, two are for students, and 6 other buildings for which there is interest to create a school of Fine Arts, but also to create a Balkan pole of Nanotechnology and industries, or even for create a business park, or techno park. Today we are on the verge of signing contracts with some of the most contemporary agencies in Europe.
6. We inaugurated 2 of the 8 new city libraries. We were a city that had no library, that what it was, had been turned into warehouses. But today there are spaces to code, to exchange books, but also community centers.
7. Student Card offers over 1000 services. Some services are definitely related to students, some others are related to the European Student Card, but today 1500 services are offered, in some areas.
8. Soft loans – we have allocated 300 for 2022. The call is still valid, for young families who can take out a loan to buy a home without interest.

9. We have formed the largest network of volunteers – over 1000 young people.

10. 50 grants for businesses and start-ups. Not all start-ups work, but we help all those young people who dare. Because not all employment will be in the state, but we should be encouraging private enterprise.
11. We established the career development office, we had many students 6 years ago who said I would become a lawyer, a philosopher, etc., and universities were opened in the districts, but the government said we would focus on the profession. So we have opened a career counseling center to orient young people, where the needs of the labor market are.
12. We allocated a 1 million euro subsidy for the recovery of public transport from the crisis. Giving 1 million euros for the first time for public transport, and knowing that there are sinners, and we have removed them from the market. And by the way, tomorrow is Christmas and the urban service will be free.
13. Increased the competencies of the Municipal Police for fines. We have increased the competencies of the municipal police, to be on the side of the state police so that the rules of traffic are not violated, and the road is occupied. This is a decision along with bicycle lanes, will facilitate movement.
14. Agricultural University of Tirana – Technological Center. I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO LOOK AT THE 8 Dormitories We Have Made. Two will be used for dormitories, and for the other 6 a race has been opened to use these buildings new opportunities, and we can create a pole, in one of the areas considered the suburb.

15. We have continued the cleaning actions of Tirana (at the Tirana River and other parts), Some of you have been part of them. We have a Tirana that is cleaned three times a day and still not enough. We will have to continue to increase this spirit of cleansing. There are still citizens who probably come from difficult areas of Albania, where everything is thrown into the stream, or by the river, but in Tirana this does not happen.
16. Agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) – 24 hour water supply. For the first time we have had a record that the EIB finances a city for its 24 hour water supply. We have shown that we collect what we bill, and for the first time the European Investment Bank has entrusted a city with the largest loan ever given to a Balkan city for water supply.
17. We have provided a rent bonus for 2,740 families. And they will have it until they get their first apartment after the earthquake. 100 families will be disconnected from the rent bonus next week, as they will move into new homes on May 5, while the other families will have to stay quiet until they get the house key.

18. The municipal council has given damages DS 1,2,3 – 6,061, according to the level of damage, a plaster, a paint, something that can be done privately, and there is no need for fortification of foundations or columns.
19. This council has approved 510 individual dwellings – out of 510, of which 381 have already been completed. Meanwhile the rest will end this spring.
20. New neighborhoods in Vaqar, 20 houses have been completed, in Ndroq 74 houses have been completed, Zallherr 49 houses have been completed, in Baldushk 29 houses have been completed, in Peza 30 houses have been completed.

21. Neighborhood “5 Maji” – 3 buildings, the first 100 families! I believe it will be the first design of what a 10-minute neighborhood means, where you have access to a health center, kindergarten, nursery, school, etc. for 10 minutes.
22. Lagja – Kombinati. From a massive takeover of the textile mill it will turn into a creative center.
23. The New National Theater, a decision of this budget, will open the competition in January. And I believe we will have a winner in March and we will have to lay the foundations of the new theater. I know the pressure you got, I got some of that pressure too. The question is will we continue with, or will we make a difficult decision as we did and have a project like that of Bjarke Ingels, and finally we will have a dignified institution.
24. New schools! We have made 14 schools, we have some in the process, it became the school “Bashkim FIno”, the school in Fresk, at the former UKT which is also becoming a school, are part of the decisions of this budget.
25. We have decided to open 100 Sports Fields, the principle is to find 100 spaces in Tirana to turn them into sports fields, where we will invest to create these sports acupunctures in Tirana.
26. Farka Park – we add pedestrians, bicycle lanes and a running track. There are now 250,000 individual users, who go to the lake park as frequenters. They have returned to the lake endemic species that have not been seen for a long time. Today from the cleaning, from the removal of the illegal buildings, we have regained the park.
27. Dry Lake – add pedestrians and bike lanes. and to use them as discharge valves, to prevent this influx into Lake Tirana.
28. Expanding the Olympic Park – Swimming Pools. The contract of a group that had rented the pools has expired, and an interesting project will be made there for the expansion of the Olympic Park.

30. We open the Cycling academy and the bicycle school for the age group 7-10 years. We want to passively use all the opportunities we have to open some youth centers in rural areas as well. One of the criticisms we have is that we focus only on the center. We have brought as a proposal to finance the cultural center of Petrela, and we want to put a focus there to gather the energies of the youth there.
