Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who is known for her protest against the war in Ukraine during a live television broadcast, has been detained by police near her home in the Moscow region, her lawyer announced on July 17.
Ovsyannikova published a post on Instagram, where she said she was taken to the police station in Moscow’s Krasnoselsky district.
She later wrote that she has been accused of discrediting the actions of the Russian military because of an interview she gave outside a Moscow court in support of opposition politician Ilya Yashin, who is being held on suspicion of spreading false information. for the Russian army.
Ovsyannikova last week held a solo protest near the Kremlin, displaying a banner reading “Putin is a murderer, his soldiers are fascists” and also displayed pictures of children killed in Ukraine. For this protest, she was not arrested.
On March 14, Ovsyannikova appeared live on a news program on Russian television, Channel One, holding a sign that read, among other things: “Stop the war. Don’t believe the propaganda. They are lying to you.” She also shouted: “Stop the war. Not to war”.
Ovsyannikova, who at the time of this protest was a producer at Channel One, on April 11 published her first opinion in the online version of Die Welt. With the title “Russians are afraid”, in this opinion she talked about the consequences of her protest.
She was later banned and fined about $500 by a Russian court for illegally calling protests.
Ovsyannikova resigned from Channel One and spent several months abroad, including in Ukraine. She has repeatedly condemned Russia’s war in Ukraine.
For three months she trained at the German media, Die Welt. Earlier in July, the journalist announced her return to Germany.

Yashin also stated that the authorities tried to force him to leave Russia, but he refused.
