Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the need to evacuate Indian students from Ukraine.
“The Prime Minister thanked the Ukrainian authorities for facilitating the evacuation of more than 20,000 Indian citizens from Ukraine. “He expressed deep concern for the safety and security of Indian students remaining in Ukraine and stressed the need for their prompt and safe evacuation,” Modi said in a press release.
The Indian government intends to evacuate at least 700 students who have been stranded in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, which is close to the border with Russia.
In addition, Modi has called for an end to the violence, adding that India is for a peaceful resolution of the issues and direct dialogue between the parties.
The call of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes with the second phone call between the two leaders since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
