A boy from Zaporizhia in southeastern Ukraine has been described as a “night owl” by Slovak authorities after crossing the Ukrainian border into Slovakia alone.
The 11-year-old was carrying a backpack, a plastic bag, a passport and had a phone number written on his hand, according to the Slovak Interior Ministry.
“He came alone because his parents had to stay in Ukraine. Volunteers took care of him, took him to a warm place and gave him food and drink“, Said the ministry.
The ministry said that thanks to information written on the boy’s hand and on a piece of paper that was folded in his passport, border staff had contact with the boy’s relatives.
“He won everyone’s hearts with his smile, fearlessness and determination, like a true hero“, It is said in the statement. It is unclear why the boy was unaccompanied.
