The EU has submitted a questionnaire to President Zelensky that will take Ukraine one step further towards granting EU candidate status at a conference in Kiev.
Speaking to the Ukrainian president, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said the EU would support Ukraine to ensure that its conclusion takes “weeks, not years”, as the process has been somewhat accelerated by the war.
“Russia will fall into economic, financial and technological decay, while Ukraine is marching towards a European future, that is what I see,” she said.
Taking the questionnaire in an envelope, Zelensky assured reporters that it would be ready within a week.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, added that more than 7m euros had been allocated to support Ukraine in collecting and presenting evidence of war crimes at the International Criminal Court.
Borrell also mentioned that EU delegates will return to the capital soon, and he believes embassies will follow suit.
