The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, participated yesterday in the Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Center of Financial Excellence (CEF) held in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
This year, Albania took over the chairmanship of the CEF Steering Board from Slovenia. The Governor of the Bank of Albania will be the Chairman of the Governing Board of CEF for the period 2022-2023. During the meeting of the Board in which he took the chairmanship, Governor Sejko expressed his gratitude, commitment to lead with dedication and transparency the activity of the board, as well as the readiness to successfully fulfill all obligations arising from this chairmanship.
In his speech, Governor Sejko said that the uncertainties related to the pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine, show a lot of uncertainty on the horizon, a fact that imposes the need for continuous monitoring and a careful decision-making process of this Board.
He stressed that the responsibility in fulfilling this mission is further enhanced by the fact that Albania is one of the founding countries of CEF, while the Bank of Albania has been one of the active partners during the two decades of CEF activity.
“During my tenure as leader, I will do my best to further refine CEF’s mission as a resource development capability for Southeast Europe with new contemporary, interactive and innovative practices.” – said the Governor.
The Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF) is an international organization based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which serves as a center for the transmission of knowledge about the region. CEF is an institution established in January 2001, by the Slovenian government at the initiative of the Slovenian Ministry of Finance and in close cooperation with the Ministries of Finance of other Southeast European countries.
CEF’s mission is to promote knowledge of international standards and best practices in public finance management and central banking, by providing specialized training, encouraging the exchange of experiences and research, as well as providing technical assistance to countries such as : Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Albania and Turkey.
The Governing Board of the CEF is the highest decision-making body and the members of this board are the finance ministers and the governors of the central banks of the member countries.
During his stay in Ljubljana, Governor Sejko also participated in the forum organized by CEF, on the topic “Strong institutions in fulfilling their mandates.”
The works of the forum addressed the systematic knowledge management and the increase of institutional capacities, in order to transform them into active education organizations and to bring their standards closer to those of the European Union. Addressing the participants in this activity, the Governor stressed the importance of investing in this regard by public institutions. In this context, an important weight is the focus on the human capital of the institution, further the focus on the management of institutional knowledge, and a third pillar seems to be the transformation of public institutions into learning organizations, where employees with a collective spirit renew thinking. and their capacities.
The Governor added that CEF continues to be a partner, which supports and provides a platform to work and transform our societies through knowledge.
“By continuously improving our institutions, we can contribute to the creation of successful and inclusive societies in our region,” he said.
